Münstermann, together with its partner in the sector submarine power cable production, Stahlbau Ihnen, supplied Tennet with two so-called turntables or carousels.

Münstermann’s actual scope of delivery of the turntables extended from the central bearing, wheel blocks, the drive engineering (pin wheel gear) to the control system. In addition Münstermann assumed responsibility for the tensioners (cable pulling machine). The rotary table itself was built by Stahlbau Ihnen.

Storage in case of breakdown

The cabling of the wind power stations of the Lower Saxony coast account for an uncountable number of kilometres of cable. For the repair of damaged cables in the case of a breakdown large amounts of replacement cable in Emden are ready for use. These are stored on the turntables supplied. Each of the two over-dimensional cable reels is 26 metres in diameter. The load-bearing capacity of the turntables amounts to 2,300 tonnes each and their storage space is divided into five segments.

With this division the cables of different thicknesses can be rolled up individually. The turntables themselves were produced in small segments and assembled in a production hall in Emden. Finally the cable was delivered by ship and with the aid of the tensioners was reeled off the ship on to the turntables.
