Projects Catalysts

As part of an extension to a production line Münstermann supplied five large-scale calcination ovens. The ovens present a number of interesting and, for the production process, important special features.

Design of the door and the housing

What immediately catches the eye of the observer is the oven's large door. This is a Münstermann in-house development with a special locking mechanism and an additional contact pressurisation of the door onto the housing by a slight under-pressure developed on the inside of the door.

The oven housing is itself a wave-shaped modular design (see 2nd illustration on the right) in order to reduce the thermal expansion and therefore prevent wear and tear. The oven fulfils the standards of DIN EN 1539 (no explosive gaseous mixture is produced during the heating process).

Improvements to the quality of the process characteristics

In comparison to the existing ovens another supplier has been able to reduce the processing time by a Factor 2. The reduction has been achieved by means of a quicker heating up of the catalytic converter elements and an optimal temperature equalisation in the oven.

Shuttle system for the loading of the oven

Münstermann is well established in the sector automation. A good example is the shuttle-system employed during the loading and unloading the chamber ovens. Within a week a shuttle-system from another supplier was replaced by a Münstermann shuttle-system with seven servo drives. The heart of the production workflow is the Rockwell control units and their corresponding safety measures.

A Wonderware-System Platform holds the visualisation system. In order to store the process data of the oven, in the event of a breakdown of the HISTORIAN, these details were fitted with Eurotherm-Control Units with a 'Store and Forward' Function.
