Drying plants
UV radiation driers: applicable in very different industries
There is a demand for effective drying technology in different areas of industry and agriculture. In this connection special importance applies to the drying of different types of coated surfaces.
More and more for safety and environmental reasons coatings, which have so far been based on organic solvents, are being replaced by substitutes (solvent-free and/or low content solvents). Such coatings are predestined for drying (or more precisely curing) by using electro-magnetic radiation.
Range of applications of the various UV-spectra
- UV-A (relatively low in energy, high penetrability), curing of thick layers, e.g. when spray painting
- UV-B (middle-range use of energy, middle penetrability) support of the polymerization in the lower (deeper) layers of the coating
- UV-C (high energy, low level of penetrability), quick and effective curing of normal coloured coatings.
UV-radiators will be employed according to their different emissions spectra.
Facts worth knowing about UV-radiators
UV-driers are relatively simple in design. The most important components are:
- Stray field transformers for the production of high-voltage for the lamp
- Gas discharge lamp for the production of UV-radiation
- Condenser package for the reduction of the idle power
- Primary side inductor leading to a step-by-step reduction of the radiation (e.g. during a break in work)
- Secondary side current and voltage transformer to show the electrical operating parameters of the radiator
The elements of the unit operations
- Reflectors in different designs to utilize the total amount of radiation emitted
- Cooling air fans to cool the lamps and reflectors
Auxiliary Electronic Appliances
Münstermann can also supply auxiliary electronic appliances which can replace the orininal transformers and show the following advantages:
- Continuous controllability of the output over a wide range
- Very stable output, independent on supply voltage fluctuations
