Metal strip coolers: cooling of metal and steel strips
Metal strip coolers serve to cool down steel and other metal strips which have been heated up during a coating process. They are mostly employed in large-scale strip processing lines.
The Münstermann cooling units use a convection system, which means that the cooling takes place using cold air. On account of the very often complicated operating sequences the run of the metal strip can either be horizontal or vertical.
The Münstermann cooling units are available in both cases in the appropriate detailed version. Münstermann produces the cooling units standardised in their own Münstermann-Diskret-Design.
Münstermann-Diskret-Design
The Münstermann-Diskret-Design is distinguished by the following characteristics:
- The actual functional component (cooler) is produced as a compact and ready-built unit
- By installing the additional components (fans) seperately, that means in a discrete way, the fitting of the components in even special, sometimes in confined spaces is made possible.
- Additional components are completely assembled and can be fitted with a minimum of expenditure.
- Functional units in sound-proof housings
- The cooling units consist of flat outer surfaces made of metal coated ISO sheet walls coated with a resistant 2K-coat of lacquer (RAL-colour to customer's wishes).
In other respects, the Münstermann-Diskret-Design units are identical with those of the Münstermann-Compact-Design.
In the cooling units of the Münstermann-Diskret-Design the required air flow is produced by housing fans which are fitted beside the compact housing of the actual plant. The induction of the cooling air ensues via optional sound absorbers and filters the production hall from either inside or outside.
The warmed outgoing air is released into the production hall via the sound-absorber air outlets fitted to the plant housing. The cooling effect is achieved by the targeted air flushing of the surfaces of the metal band from both sides.
Special nozzles for high efficiency
Concerning the air flushing, the Münstermann-Special-Nozzles guarantee high efficiency due to:
- the concentration of the air flow
- the even flow of air across the width of the strip
- the angle between the stream of air and the surface of the strip
- the angle of the stream of the air flow and the directional flow of the metal strip
The Special Nozzles are slot nozzles which are fitted to the individual nozzle boxes. The nozzle boxes are very simple to assemble and dismantle. For the protection of the nozzles against damages, for example, when the metal strips are torn, interruptions in the strip tension assembly or abnormal strip runs occur then guiding skids can be fitted. These skids are placed above the level of the nozzles and are to be made of the Material 1.4301 or optionally of a plastic material.
