Flash dryers for short drying times

Flash driers are used for continuous air stream drying of bulky goods as well as paste-like materials. The product to be dried is transported vertically in the warm air stream and remains only a few seconds in the drier. Gas speeds of between 20-30 meters per second are possible.

There are very different materials, which can be dried in the air stream drier. Some examples are the following:

  • Melamine
  • Starch and potato fibers
  • Aluminum hydroxide
  • Di-calcium phosphate
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Ammonium salts
  • Similar products

Flash driers are the simplest and most cost-effective convection driers and in general take up relatively little space.

If the short drying time does not achieve the required moisture content then a fluid bed can be fitted behind the flash drier.

Moist goods are fed into the flash drier by endless screws, spinners or by a pneumatic shot. The material to be dried and the shot in goods must be sufficiently pourable.

The most common area of application of the flash driers is the chemical industry.
